Cambridge Chronicle 9 Jan 1841: Rowley farm fire

On Sunday evening last about half-past six o’clock, a fire broke out upon the premises of Mr. F. W. Rowley, a farmer, of Trumpington, in this county, but we happy to say that by the prompt exertions of the villagers, the flames were extinguished by half-past nine. It is generally believed to have been the work of an incendiary. The stack that was set fire to was one of stubble, and was surrounded by several corn stacks which it is singular escaped without much damage. Had the fire broke out a few hours later the whole must have been consumed, and probably the house and premises would have shared the same fate. Too much praise cannot be bestowed upon the inhabitants of Trumpington for their timely assistance.
