Cambridge Chronicle 23 Dec 1843: John Rawlings summoned to pay wages

John Rawlings, of Trumpington, was summoned by a man named Reynall, and another, for the balance of a week’s wages each, amounting to 22s. 6d. — The defendant handed in a bill that he had paid for the men at a beer-shop kept by a person named Butler; but as it turned out that the largest portion of this bill was for beer allowed to the men in part payment for their work, the defendant was ordered to pay the balance due to them 14s. 2d., after deducting a small bill they owed Butler.
