Cambridge Chronicle 18 Nov 1848: Covell suing Powter brothers

The plaintiff, a baker, of Trumpington. The defendant denied 15s. of the debt.
The Judge called for the plaintiff’s books.
The plaintiff had neglected to bring them, and so had to take a judgement for 15s less than his demand.
COVELL v. JAMES POWTER
The same plaintiff recovered against the brother of the last defendant but, it turning out that the plaintiff had kept his accounts very negligently, and by so doing had given the defendant reason to believe he did not owe part of the money, the Judge ordered the plaintiff to pay half the costs.
