Hertford Mercury and Reformer 19 May 1849: John Smith guilty of theft
John Smith, aged 23, labourer, of Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with stealing a shirt, the property of James Dearmer, at Graveley. Sentenced to be imprisoned for one calendar month, one week solitary, the remainder with hard labour, and to be whipped.
