Cambridge Chronicle 9 Aug 1851: James Harradine prosecuting for pick-pocketing dismissed
TRUMPINGTON. — Charge of Pocket-Picking. — On Monday, the 4th instant, Thomas Shareman, tailor, Cambridge, was charged at the Town Hall, before W. Warren, Esq., the Mayor of Cambridge, by James Harradine, of Trumpington, with picking his pocket, whilst in the garden at the “Unicorn” public-house, in that village, on Saturday last. It appeared that the defendant and many others were in the garden, and during the evening, some of the persons were larking with each other, and complainant missed his handkerchief, but almost immediately found it by his side; notwithstanding which he had the temerity to charge Mr. Shareman with stealing it, although numbers of persons told him to the contrary. Shareman was detained until Monday morning, when he was brought before the mayor, and the case was dismissed.
