Cambridge Chronicle 28 Apr 1855: Poaching on Mr Cockett (Cawcutt)'s land
CAMBRIDGE DIVISION PETTY SESSIONS.SATURDAY, APRIL, 21, 1855.
(Before the Rev. J. Thornhill and C.B. Wale, Esq.)
GOOD NEWS FOR THE HARES. - Elisha Tarrant and Henry Brown, two notorious poachers, who have been repeatedly convicted, and who were a terror to the poor hares, were summoned for trespassing in search of game, at Trumpington, on the 17th instant, on lands belonging to Mr. Cockett. — They were convicted, and sentenced to pay a fine of £2 each; in default to be committed to gaol for two months. — Thomas Tarrant, brother to one of the parties, applied to have the sentence deferred, on the ground that the men intended to emigrate to America, and would be out of the country in a month. The application was granted.
