Cambridge Independent Press 18 Oct 1856: George and William Wilson guilty of fighting
TRUMPINGTON. — George Wilson and William Wilson, two sturdy labourers of Trumpington, were charged, the former with fighting, and the latter with fighting and assaulting the policeman in the execution of his duty. The defendants were fighting in the village, when the policeman endeavoured to disperse them, when the latter named defendant struck the officer on the head. He denied the policeman’s statement, when a witness named William Dobson stated that he saw the defendant strike the officer three or four times, for which he was fined £1 and the expenses, 12s. 6d., or three weeks imprisonment. It appeared that the defendant, George Wilson, had had his beer taken away from him by a man at a public-house, and that a scuffle on the road ensued between them. When requested by the policeman to go away, he did go immediately. He had to pay 1s. the cost of apprehension.
