CAMBRIDGE DIVISION.

SATURDAY, March. 1. — Before the Revs. W. Smith, J. Thornhill; J.P. Baumgartner and T.J. Ficklin, Esqrs.

CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. — George Pink, a boy about twelve years old, living at Trumpington, was charged with cruelly ill-treating a donkey, on Monday, the 25th ult. — The offence was proved by Mr. Ficklin, one of the Magistrates, who said that he was on the way to Shelford on the morning in question, when he overtook the prisoner on the road, who had a donkey and cart; the boy was beating the donkey with a whip handle, at the end of which was a sharp nail, which had been thrust into the hind-quarters of the animal, and blood was dripping upon the road. Mr. Ficklin was of the opinion that the donkey had been most shamefully used. — The boy was sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment, with hard labour.
