Cambridge Independent Press 18 Dec 1858: Cawcutt Christmas sheep for sale
Our Cambridge caterers are never behind in these interesting matters; they spare neither trouble nor expense in providing the best of everything required to decorate our Christmas tables. Our market, too, is amply provided with poultry, and the shop-windows of grocers are finely decorated, and the drapers show their fashions for our fair friends in infinite variety. As there is some difficulty in obtaining the correct returns of some of our butchers as to the stock, sheep, etc., they intend to kill, we merely print those who unhesitatingly give us their returns:-Mr William Palmer, Petty Cury, has provided 15 bullocks, purchased at St. Ives; they are of the best and finest description, weighing from 80 to 96 stones each, and were grazed by Mr. Kirkby, Lincolnshire. Mr Palmer also intends to slaughter several bullocks of his own grazing, and which are of a superior quality. He has also provided 50 extraordinarily fine sheep, grazed by Mr Cawcutt, of Trumpington; and, in addition, 20 Southdowns, of his own grazing. Mr. Palmer will have his shop ready for inspection on Wednesday evening next.
