Cambridge Independent Press 19 Jun 1886: building land partly sold

TRUMPINGTON.

Estate Sale. – Mr. J. Carter Jonas offered by auction the other day, about eight acres of freehold land, situate at the junction of the London and Mill-roads. The entire property was first offered in one lot. But, after some competition, it was withdrawn at a reserve of £3,500, the auctioneer declaring that the property would be sold at that price; but, as this failed to elicit a bid, it was then offered for sale in fifteen lots, and, after considerable competition, seven lots were sold at what was considered to be good prices in these times of depression in the land market. The seven lots sold contained altogether 4a. 2r. 27p., and realized altogether £2,625, or a little under £600 per acre.
