Cambridge Chronicle 29 Jun 1888: Infield fleeces for sale
Wednesday, was 9,211 fleeces, 2,157 tods 10 lbs. against 8,421 fleeces, 2,163 tods 4 lbs, last year, showing an increase of 790 fleeces, but a decrease in weight of 5 tods 22 lbs. The parcels came to hand in excellent condition, still it was not beyond an average condition; but on the other hand, as the figures will show, the weight was light, which is said to be attributable to the small and short supply of winter and spring provender for sheep feeding, whereby the wool could not gain weight in growing. Mr. A.G. Dilley, the secretary, and his assistants got the wool weighed out quickly, although some lots did not come in till long after the allotted time.
The following is an account of the quantity of wool pitched:-
