Cambridge Chronicle 27 Jul 1894: Duke lambs sold
The 150 yearling ewes fetched £475 10s., or an average of £3 3s. 6d per head. Lot 13, of five ewes, by “Doncaster,” fetched £4 10s. per head, a French firm being the buyers. Sir Joshua T. Rowley, Tendring Hall, Stoke-by-Naylands, purchased six lots of yearlings at an average of £2 15s. per head; and Mr. Robert Smith, of Golding, Herts., bought twenty ewes at an average of £3 3s. per head. Other buyers of yearlings were Mr. Henry Webb, Streetly Hall, Linton; Mr George Duke, Trumpington; Mr. H. McCalmont, Cheveley Park; and Mr. Martin Slater, Western Colville. The four-tooth ewes averaged £3 3s. Five of them by Blyth’s “Gloucester,” were knocked down by Mr. Beck, at £4 11s. per head; and Mr. J.S. Blyth, Stanstead, Essex, secured five six-tooth ewes by “Favourite,” and another ram, both sons of “Old Norwich” for the sum of £26 5s. The average price for the six-tooth ewes was £3 6s. Four and six-tooth ewes were also bought by Mr H. McCalmont, Mr. C. Jennings, Shelford; Mr. A. King, Great Chesterford; Lord Hampdon, Mr. Gardner, Mr. M. Slater, Mr. Asplin, of Thriplow, and Mr. G, Duke, Trumpington.

There were 32 lots of five ewe lambs, sixteen of which were knocked down to Mr. Geo. Duke, of Trumpington, at an average cost of £1 13s. 6d.
