The finest “Royal” and the finest site – such is the general opinion about Britain’s 1951 Festival of Agriculture which opened at Trumpington. Today’s blazing sun was a pleasant contrast to the gales and torrential rains which marked Cambridge’s last Royal in 1922. From early in the morning cars streamed towards the showground. As traffic pressure increased the effect made itself felt even on the outskirts of town where there were occasionally short hold-ups.
