Joan served in the Women's Royal Naval Service; met and married William F. Printy, serving in the US Army Air Corp, on September 9, 1944 in England. As a war bride, Joan and her daughter left England to come to America to join her husband Fred. They lived briefly in San Jose before settling in Eureka. Joan was a member of Camellia Chapter O.E.S. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, fishing and daily crossword puzzles. She worked for the Humboldt County payroll department for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years and her three brothers. Joan is survived by her children Wendy (Jim) Smith of Rifle, Colorado, Wanda (Ken) Dougherty of Eureka, Robert Wayne Printy of Eureka, Lesley (Billy) Sauls of Windsor and special friend, Harley Dew of King Salmon. She has 15 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
