Notes for: Patrick James Arnold
Cambridge Independent Press 26 Mar 1915:
We regret to record the death of Mr James Patrick Arnold, dairyman, of 52 Victoria Road, Chesterton. Mr Arnold, who was 42 years of age, had been in ill health for some six months past, and during the last nine weeks had been confined to his bed.
We was a member of the well-known Cambridge family of dairymen and cowkeepers, being one of the seven sons of the late Mr Charles Arnold, of Abbey Street, Cambridge, who died about two years ago. He was born at Walnut Tree Avenue, and about nine years ago he removed to Trinity Farm, Trumpington. He continued to carry on business with his father and brothers until his father's death, when he set up business on his own account at 52 Victoria Road, Chesterton, and carried it on with the aid of his two sons Charles and Patrick, under the title of P Arnold and Sons.
He was a staunch Conservative in politics, and during his residence in Cambridge was a member of the Beaconsfield Club. Whilst at Trumpington he was a delgate to the Trumpington and Grantchester Conservative Association, and also a vice-president of the Trumpington Football Club, in which he took great interest. He was also very energetic in promoting benefit concerts, &c., for various deserving objects in Trumpington and neighbourhood. He was much liked and respected both in Trumpington and Cambridge. He leaves a widow and two sons, who will continue to carry on the business under the name of P Arnold and Sons.
The funeral took place at Histon Road Cemetery, Cambridge, on Tuesday afternoon. Mr Arnold was well known and much respected, and several hundred persons attended at the grave-side to pay a last tribute of respect.
