Cambridge Independent Press 10 May 1873:
James Stearn, labourer, of Trumpington, was charged with being drunk and disorderly at Harston on the 22nd of April. The charge was proved by p.c. Wilderspin the evidence being the same as in the previous case and defendant was fined 2s. 6d. and costs.

EDUCATION ACT OFFENCES
William Comfort, . . . , all of Chesterton, were summoned by Mr Haird, school attandance officer of the Chesterton Union, for neglecting to send their children to school . . .
Charles Debenham, of Comberton; James Stearn, of Trumpington; and David Harradine, of Oakington, all labourers, were summoned for similar offences. - An order for the children to attend school was made in each case.
Cambridge Independent Press 3 Dec 1881:
DRUNKENNESS
Thomas Arnold, labourer, was summoned for being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, on the high-way in the parish of Trumpington, on the 17th of November. He pleaded guilty and was fined £1 and costs.
James Stearn, labourer, of Trumpington, pleaded guilty to being drunk on the highway, at Grantchester on the 20th of November, and was fined 2s. 6d. and expenses. Allowed a fortnight in which to pay the money.

STEALING WHEAT
Wilson Farrent and James Stearn, labourers, and Henry Wright, shepherd, all of Trumpington, were charged - the first two with stealing, and the latter with receiving - nine stones four pounds of wheat value 9s., the property of Mr. Alfred Jones, of Trumpington, on the 31st of October. - Mr. J. E. L. Whitehead appeared for the prosecution. - The Bench, after hearing evidence, convicted the prisoners, and sentenced each one to three months' imprisonment, with hard labour.
