Notes for: James Cuming

From the Cambridgeshire Chronicle and Journal, 26 Aug 1825: To be let, and entered on at Michaelmas next,
A house in Trumpington, consisting of two parlours in front, seven airy bed-rooms, a good kitchen or keeping-room, a back kitchen, large dry cellars, small yard, pump with excellent water, and a good garden.
The above premises have recently been occupied as a boarding-school, for which it is well adapted, being capable of accommodating forty young gentlemen.
Coaches to and from London are almost hourly passing. Enquire of James Cumming, Trumpington, near Cambridge.

From the Huntingdon, Bedford and Peterborough Gazette, 10 Feb 1838: All persons to whom the late Mr James Cuming, of Trumpington, in the county of Cambridge, deceased, stood indebted at the time of his death, are requested to send a statement of their respective demands to Mr Charles Cuming, of Trumpington aforesaid, or to Mr Samuel Peed, of Cambridge, the executors of the deceased, in order that the same may be examined, and if correct, discharged. . . .
N. B. - A neat cottage with suitable garden, late the residence of the said James Cuming, adjoining the London Road, to let. - Enquire of the executors.

Bought The Chequer, or Boyden's, near the north-eastern corner of Dagling End, from executors of Charles Humfrey in 1796; left to his son Charles Cuming (no. 93 on Inclosure Award map). Also messuage near north-western corner of Dagling End (no. 85 on Inclosure Award map); exchanged with F C J Pemberton in 1809 for land where the school and house were built in High Street, Trumpington. This last inclosure (nos 38 and 39 on Inclosure Award map) today covers no. 45 High Street, 1 to 61 Alpha Terrace and 16 to 20 Wingate Way
