Notes for: George Edward Hutt
Cambridge Chronicle 24 Jul 1869:
TRUMPINGTON. - House breaking. - On Tuesday night last or very early on Wednesday morning, July 21st, some thief or thieves entered the dwelling house of Mr. G. E. Hutt, schoolmaster of this village, and stole therefrom wearing apparel, food, money, &c., to the amount of a few pounds. It is thought the rogues were disturbed by some of the family (who were in the room just above the window where the entrance was made), as some valuable articles were found on the mat of the back door, which was left wide open. The things in all the cupboards of the rooms in the ground floor were overhauled, and many of them scattered about. The police are on the alert.
Cambridge Chronicle 8 May 1896:
TRUMPINGTON. - SCHOOLS - The Managers of these schools, which were excused the annual examination, but were inspected under Article 84 (b) have just received the Government Report.
It is as follows: - Mixed School - "Mr Hutt continues to work conscientiously and well in this school. Tone and discipline are excellent and good progress has been made. A fuller record of work done might with advantage be kept." Infants’ School - "Thoroughly good work continues to be done in this school. Spelling and arithmetic continue to deserve special praise. Tone and discipline are excellent." The grant per head in the Mixed School was £1 0s. 6d., in the Infants’ School 16s. 6d. The drawing of the boys was reported by the Science and Art Department as "Good."
Cambridge Daily News 29 Aug 1908:
George Hutt has been the respected headmaster of Trumpington National School for the last 44 years. It was not for want of energy that he is leaving but the wisdom of the Government in compelling him to give up his post at the age of 65. He would not advise teaching as a vocation for men but felt sure there was a future for women as educational instructors.
