No. 13,025, "Bridges", patented by J. E. Whiting, Cromwell House, Trumpington. In joints for bridges, the members of which move relatively to one another, resistance to distortion is increased by the frictional adhesion of the overlapping ends, which are clamped together at each joint by a bolt with or without a clamp. The friction can be regulated by means of a spring and resilient washer. Shear on the bolt is reduced by enclosing it in a tube, and the components of the members or links, if hidden, are provided with bolts at their free ends. The links may consist of flat metal bars or bent sheet metal, slotted to inter-engage.
