Notes for: Alexandrina Jessie Grote
From the London Standard, 7 Jan 1864: Festivities at Trumpington. One of those pleasing entertainments which are so valuable in promoting cordial goodwill amongst all classes, took place on Tuesday, at Trumpington, near Cambridge, when, by the liberality of the worthy vicar, the Rev. Professor Grote, of Trinity College, the whole village was regaled bountifully in honour of the marriage of Miss Grote to the Rev. J. B. Mayor, head master of Kensington School. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Whewell, assisted by the brother of the bridegroom. At its conclusion the happy pair received the unanimous and hearty congratulations of the villagers. About 200 women were entertained at a plentifully supplied tea table, and about the same number of men enjoyed a bountiful old English supper in a large barn, which, having been kindly lent for the occasion by R. Toller, Esq., was, by the energy and excellent taste of the worthy schoolmaster, Mr Higham, transformed from its usual rustic appearance into a tastefully-decorated room literally covered with wreaths, evergreens, flags, festoons, and mottoes. To the same energetic and indefatigable worker was also due the credit of having so made the arrangements that all were well provided for and everyone satisfied. A capital musical entertainment, under the able guidance of Mr Poole, of Cambridge, completed the enjoyment of the evening.
In 1866 she inherited "Piggotts" (no. 62 on Inclosure Award map) and the property immediately east of Piggotts (no. 61) from her uncle Rev John Grote. Sold them both to Henry Williams Pemberton and Edwards Frank Hodgson in 1867
