Cambridge Independent Press 31 Oct 1913: Cow died on Hills Road

COW COMMITS SUICIDE.

An unfortunate cow, which was running away from about 60 others while being driven along the Hills-road on Thursday evening, ran into a motor-car and died almost immediately from the injuries she received.

The cattle were being driven along the Hills-road by John Flack, herdsman to Mr. Duke, of Trumpington. While passing over the bridge, a roan cow broke away from the others and ran back towards the town. In attempting to stop her, Flack was knocked over, but was not hurt. Opposite the gates of the Great Northern Railway yard the cow ran into a motor-car. The poor beast was badly injured, and died almost immediately and was later taken away in a float sent by Mr. Duke.

The motor-car was driven by Victor Cooper, chauffeur, of Newmarket. The car belonged to Mr. W. J. Halsey, Moulton Paddocks, Newmarket. The bonnet and a lamp on the car were damaged, and it was taken to the Ortona Motor-Bus Garage.
