President of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society, 1893. Hon. D.Litt., Oxford, 1902. An expert on, and keen collector of, Lepidoptera. Made a study of Incunabula; chiefly interested in the acquisition of 15th-century books for the University Library. Editor of Collected Papers of H. Bradshaw. A scholar rather than an administrator, he was greatly loved by all his Assistants at the Library, ‘acquiring and cataloguing books in an old-fashioned but perfectly satisfactory manner, as yet untroubled by problems of collection and storage.’ Of Southmead, Chaucer Road, Cambridge. Died Sept. 21, 1923, at Hampstead. ‘A character of extraordinary sweetness and charm, Jenkinson will be remembered for the help, often amounting to inspiration, which he gave to other scholars during these generations.’ See H.
