John Venn was a mathematician, logician and philosopher, who lived in
Trumpington from the early 1900s until his death in 1923.
John Venn (1834-1923) was a mathematician, logician and philosopher who invented the Venn
Diagram used in mathematics. He entered Gonville and Caius College in 1853, was a Fellow at
the age of 23, College Lecturer at 28 and President at 68. John Venn was elected a Fellow of the
Royal Society in 1883. He married Susanna Carnegie Edmonstone in 1867. The family lived at
Vicarsbrook, Chaucer Road, from the early 1900s until his death in 1923, after which Susanna
Carnegie Venn lived there until her death in 1931. They were both buried in Trumpington
Churchyard Extension.
In March 2019, one of the rooms in the Clay Farm Centre was named the Venn Touchdown.
