Census of 6th June 1841
HO107/74/14 (Enumeration District 19) and HO107/74/15 (Enumeration District 20)
Trumpington was divided into two enumeration districts.
ED19: "all that part of the parish of Trumpington which lies on the right hand side of the road
leading from Cambridge to Hauxton except the Workhouse Yard".
ED20: "all that part of the parish of Trumpington which lies on the left hand side of the road
leading from Cambridge to Hauxton including the Workhouse Yard".
These have been combined into a single file for ease of reference.
Very often no location within the parish is stated, and one is left guessing by reference to the
apparent neighbours or to later censuses.
The 1841 census contains less detailed information about individuals than later years. In
particular:
Ages of those over 15 were supposed to be rounded down to a multiple of 5 (e.g. 39 would be
recorded as 35, 51 as 50).
No place of birth is given; just whether or not born in the county of Cambridgeshire, or in
Scotland, Ireland or Foreign Parts.
Occupations are usually only stated for heads of households.
No relationships with the head of household are given.
