Engine Cleaner, with uncle David Stearn Note (6) Further to the death of Arther King Stearn, it was thought that he died was working on the Forth railway bridge in West Lothian, Scotland. A search on the Forth bridge memorial which lists all workers who died in the construction of the bridge proved negative. Enquiries with the Queensferry history group have revealed that Arthur King Stearn died as a result of contracting Varola(Smallpox) in February 1886. There was an outbreak in Queensferry in 1886 with 60 cases being reported and a total 10 fatalities. He is recorded as being an Engine driver but as his death was not as a result of working on the bridge he does not appear on the memorial Copyright © Trumpington Local History Group 2023 Email TLHG Return to TLHG introduction page Name Index
