Andrew Roberts led over 20 participants on this walk, on a warm and sunny evening. From Trumpington Pavilion, we followed the turnpike route past the tollhouse along the High Street and Hauxton Road; past the location of the Plant Breeding Institute headquarters (now Waitrose and the P&R site); the first phase of homes in the Trumpington Meadows development; the former railway bridge and cutting; to the third milestone; the site of the World War 2 Prisoner of War (PoW) Camp and the Shepherd’s Cottage; into Trumpington Meadows Country Park; past the lake to the route of the railway line and former river bridge; to the location of the art mosaic, then along the riverside past the fish ponds to Byron’s Pool weir; across the park to the Trumpington Meadows local centre with the Hopscotch artwork, shops and Primary School; along local roads with stories about the street names, the gold bricks marking the location of PBI buildings and the site of the Anglo-Saxon settlement; views of the church tower; and finally the grounds of Anstey Hall.
