The meeting on 29 February 2024 had three speakers, who concentrated on the south west area of Trumpington (including Trumpington Meadows).
Before introducing the speakers, Howard Slatter paid tribute to Dr Stephen Brown, who died in December 2023. Stephen was the husband of Shirley Brown, who had been Chair of the Local History Group for some years. He had worked as a plant scientist at the Plant Breeding Institute. Shirley and Stephen had co-authored a number of books about our local history, including Trumpington Past and Present. He had been an expert photographer, providing many of the photographs in the books and editing others which have been extensively used during talks and on the web site. Howard hoped it would be possible for the Group to have copies of more of Stephen’s Trumpington photographs.
Speakers:
Andrew Roberts: 5000 year history of south west Trumpington, from prehistory to the present;
Randall Evans: public art of Trumpington Meadows and the Country Park;
Iain Webb, Wildlife Trust: Trumpington Meadows Nature Reserve (Trumpington Meadows Country Park).
